What type of person you are? This is a question of identity evaluation. Type of person means your personality. The better you know yourself the better you are in a position to excel in your life.
Why you behave in a particular way? What kind of friends you chose? Which kind of people do you like? All these things indicate the type of person you are, the kind of personality you have.
Success and growth require you to know what type of person you are? What is your strength? What is your weakness? How you behave in a particular environment?
When you go for these answers then you invest yourself in revealing your identity. When you know yourself better you also come to know about what is good for you. What is going to work in your life? What is hindering your success?
These thoughts process are urgent for any individual who is looking for success and growth in their life.
This is a quest for knowing you, knowing your personality.
This question also means that you know what type of people are around you.
You live in an environment, you deal with people, you live with others, you do business with them, you make relationships with them. You have also social life.
The more you know about people the easier it is for you to deal with them successfully.
Since we all are born differently so to deal with them requires a different approach. That is why understanding different types of personalities are important.
Psychologists have given different models to understand people better. All models are good and helpful.
Many contemporary personality psychologists believe that there are five basic dimensions of personality, often referred to as the “Big 5” personality traits. The five broad personality traits described by the theory are extraversion (also often spelt as extroversion), agreeableness, openness, conscientiousness, and neuroticism.
Here we will understand The Big 5 Personality Traits Model.
This model was propounded by D. W. Fiske (1949). Later many other psychologists worked on it and explained it more emphatically like Norman (1967), Smith (1967), Goldberg (1981), and McCrae & Costa (1987).
Here all 5 personality traits are representing a range between two extremes, one is high and the other is low. Openness represents as highly open and very traditional.
Big 5 has 5 different personality traits. Know the type of person you are.
A broad range of interests and vivid imaginations are the hallmark of the open type of person. They’re curious and creative. They always try to learn new things, meet new people, work on new ideas.
Those who are on the high side of the openness trait are bold and courageous. Those who are on the low side of the openness trait are traditional and timid. They are shy and low in confidence.

Takes new challenges.

This type of person is very traditional.
Tries to live in solitude.
Sticks to old and tested ideas.

This type of person is very thoughtful and prudent. He is very sober and behaves gently. He has control over his mind and actions.
This type of person is always organized and Likes perfectionism at work. He is farsighted and concern for others.
On the low scale of conscientiousness, he is messy and does not like a system. He is myopic in vision and peevish in behaviour.

This type of person is unorganized.
Finishes things in a hurry.
Very often procrastinates tasks.
Does not comply with the orders.

This type of person is very social and excited. He is full of energy and very talkative. He loves social bonding and assertiveness. This type of person is also very emotionally expressive.
On the low side of extraversion, he is reserved and silent. The outside environment does not suit him. Any social activity and social event do not appeal to him much.

Makes friends easily.
Enjoys group conversation.
Has a very big circle of friends.
Always engaged in social media.
Gets energized in groups.
Thinks less and talks more.

This type of person does not speak much.
Lives a low current life.
Does not take interest in socializing.
Does not like people around him.
Avoids social functions.
Uses social media more for information & entertainment and NOT for connection.
This type of person is very trustworthy, and respectful. He is philanthropic and altruistic. This type of person is very humble and empathetic. He is emotional with rationality. This type of person is very God-fearing and kind.
On the low side of agreeableness, this type of person is manipulative tells a lie for personal gains.
High on agreeableness
This type of person is interested in other human beings.
Very sympathetic and caring.
Always lends support to everyone.
God-fearing and spiritual.
Live for values.
Very trusted and respectful.
Sets a good example for others.
Low on agreeableness
This type of person does not take an interest in others.
At times callous and lousy.
Materialistic and sensual.
Does not care about others’ feelings.
Manipulative in nature.
Insults and belittles others.
Leaves bad impressions.
This type of person is very moody. This type of person suffers from mood instability. Individuals very often experience mood swings.
This type of person is at times very anxious, and irritable. He goes in sadness and dejection. He is a potent threat of depression.
On the low side of neuroticism, the person is more stable and resilient.
High on neuroticism
This type of person is continuously worried.
Fired up easily.
Very moody, no firm decisions.
Very low in confidence and fear.
Has no clear cut purpose in life.

Has full control over thoughts and minds.
Rarely feels sad and depressed.
Relaxed in nature.
Very confident and enthusiastic.
These five personality traits are known as “Big 5” personality traits.
These traits are universal. We can judge a person’s personality irrespective of race, religion, and culture.
Research suggests that both biological and environmental influences play a role in shaping our personalities.
It means that both “nature” and “nurture” has a role in developing our personality. We also jump from one personality trait to another with the process of maturation.
Openness and Extraversion are commonly the traits of youth and carefree life. But as we grow older we tend to shift towards Agreeableness and Conscientiousness.
After learning the Big 5 Personality Traits, the gulf between the ‘type of person you were, and the ‘type of person you are, become wider.
When you know yourself and others better your approach towards them becomes improved. You know what trait in what situation is helpful and hazardous.
Your behaviour moulds accordingly. Since personalities are also nurtured you realize your area of improvement. You add new and more result-oriented traits to your personality.
You start understanding your work better. Your perception of others become more influential.
This way you improve on your performances. Your work becomes better. Your relations become better. You become better.
